It is believed that Shopify rarely unreasonably bans accounts in the case when they do not violate its Terms of Service. But unfortunately, the Shopify community is full of unhappy stories about deleting whole stores and all their data without apparent reason.
What should you do if your Shopify account is blocked and you lose access to the BackupMaster app's admin panel? We recommend downloading backups to your hard drive to be prepared for this situation.
Why should you download backups?
According to the 3-2-1 rule of backups, you should have at least three(3) copies of your data. Two(2) of them are in different cloud storages: the original one is on Shopify, and your backup app saves the other. And one(1) backup copy you should keep offline on your hard drive. If two cloud storages become unavailable to you due to account deletion, a backup on the hard drive will allow you to protect data and create a new store without loss.
The BackupMaster app backs up the following items:
- Products (including product images)
- Metafields
- Orders
- Customers
- Themes
- Pages
- Blogs
- Custom collections
- Smart collections
- Locations
- Saved Searches
- Policies
- Shipping zones
- SEO tags.
You don't need to start a Shopify store from scratch if you have previously saved a version of it on your hard drive. With the BackupMaster app's Export feature, you can easily download your backups in the most convenient format.
How to download a backup archive
Before downloading a backup file, it is important to make sure you have the most recent version saved in cloud storage. The BackupMaster app automatically backs up your data once every 24 hours, so if any changes were made to your store after the last backup, you will need to manually initiate the backup process.
1. Click the Backup Now button.
You can start downloading the latest version once the store has been backed up and you have received an email notification.
2. Click on Export in the upper right corner of the dashboard.
Depending on the size of your store, you may have to wait for a while. We will notify you through email when it is completed.
3. You can either download a ZIP file containing your backup or use the provided link directly to upload the data to a new account.
How to restore your deleted account
Now, navigate to the newly created account and install the BackupMaster app.
1. Click on the Import button.
2. Upload a previously saved backup archive from your computer.
Alternatively, use the link that was sent to you by the backup service.
3. Select the data categories that you need to upload and initiate the process.
Soon, all the information saved from the previous account will be transferred to the new one. Your store is back with you again!
This is how the BackupMaster app can assist in restoring even deleted Shopify accounts.
It's important to keep your downloaded versions up-to-date by regularly downloading backup archives, as this will ensure that you have a current copy of your store.
